SAVATH & SAVALAS - Golden Pollen

SAVATH & SAVALAS - Golden Pollen (Anti) Comentários: Scott Herren (now with an added Guillermo) has come a long way since the Savath & Savalas project made baby steps back with 'Folk Songs for Trains, Trees & Honey' over seven years ago. From those early instrumental/electronic compositions which were markedly different from both his work as Prefuse 73 and as Delarosa & Asora he has moved on leaps and bounds, coming to a peak with the fabulous 'Apropa't', an LP he recorded with the honeyed vocal talents of Eva Puyuelo Muns. 'Golden Pollen' marks Herron's move away from both Warp records and Muns, as he takes the mic himself for the first time solo and allows himself to forge the record you feel he always wanted to. Harnessing the talents of friends John McEntire (of Tortoise) on production, mixing and percussion, Laurence Pike (of Triosk) on drums, Jose Gonzalez, Tyondai Braxton (of Battles) and Mia Doi Todd on guest vocals he manages to cram a hell of a lot into the album's mammoth 16 tracks, but keeps a uniformity which is the albums greatest strength. It's better to have too much of a good thing than to have too little, and there's certainly enough here to sink your teeth into, and I get the feeling that ANTI will prove to be a good home for his very well realised project. His vocals sound strong and fluid throughout showing his appreciation and knowledge of Tropicalia legends such as João Gilberto, and coming at this time of year it feels like his music should finally do what it always threatened to do and cross over into the mainstream. Lovely stuff... in boomkat [Para Ouvir]
