Son Lux - Wither

Successful Living from Diesel | Zucchi

SMABERS, Dickie/THE MOERWIJK CREW - FC Den Haag

SMABERS, Dickie/THE MOERWIJK CREW - FC Den Haag (Dumb Terminal) Comentários: Dickie is no longer prepared to stand idly by watching the current team failing to live up to the high standard set by the great Den Haag team of 75, how he longs for the anthem that is FC Den Haag to be on every city radio station celebrating the feats of the current team. Sadly though today’s team does not live up to Dickie’s expectations, so much so in fact that Dickie brings us the anthem to try and induce self belief in the team, ‘FC Den Haag, we are the best’, so upset is Dickie that he’s considering coming out of retirement and offering his services to the team. Following the anthemic opener, Morwyck Blues resonates with the sadness that Dickie feels on matters close to his heart, while The Hague Jam is the perfect track for driving from Den Haag to Scheveningen (or anywhere) at 3am. Full of his trade mark 808 beats, vocoded vocals and searing melodies, Dickie has produced tracks suitable to be played loudly on the cassette player of every BMW as it cruises around the city streets at night, searching for young souls to be evangelised to the ways of the 808 beat. in clone [Para Ouvir/Samples]

VARIOUS - Delsin II Compilation

VARIOUS - Delsin II Compilation (Delsin Holland) Comentários: Delsin Records should really require little introduction to techno and house fans. For well over 10 years they've been established as Holland's premier outlet for all things deep and Detroit orientated with a roll call now including Redshape, Newworldaquarium and Shed. This is their second label round up, usefully collecting their best cuts from the last half of this decade. Spread over 2 discs, the selections run knee deep with future classics and hidden gems galore. Redshape's 'Misc Usage' is a notable highlight, culled from his 2006 EP of the same name which is long out of print now. Delta Funktionen's 'Nebula' is taken from his stunning 'Electromagnetic Radiation EP' which ranked highly on our end-of-year chart, and office fave Newworldaquarium provides two immense cuts with the melted synths of 'Bond' and the super rare and early 'Twenty', quite possibly one of his lushest tracks to date, and that's only the first disc! The second includes another 12 essential neo-Detroit techno and house tracks, reaching from the Nubian Mindz classic 'Afrika Man' to a healthy amount of Vince Watson productions and Shed's killer 'Handle With Care' cut from his 2006 EP of the same name. It's really a no brainer for anyone who didn't have the time or funds to pick up the 12"s on release and proves that the label is still in very rude health. We're looking forward to 3.0 already - Amazing collection. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

PINCH/VARIOUS - Tectonic Plates Volume 2

PINCH/VARIOUS - Tectonic Plates Volume 2 (Tectonic) Comentários: As the series reaches it's climax this CD version drops with one disc of unmixed tracks from the vinyls and another mixed by Pinch featuring too many exclusives to count. The unmixed CD collects together tracks from Martyn, 2562, Flying Lotus, Joker, Pinch, Peverelist ('Junktion' remixed by Shed!!!), Skream, Benga and RSD for a veritable Bass jamboree to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. For a proper future shock check the second disc mixed by Pinch. Starting with Peverelist's remix of 'Waterfallz' is a choice move in our books, but proceeding to drop unreleased and exclusive tracks from Loefah's 'Just A Beat', Peverelist's highly sought after 'Blues', Mala's Answer Me', 2652's 'Third Wave' & 'Love In Outer Space' is just ruling tings hard! I can't be arsed writing the rest of the tracks down (there's 27 in total) but you can rest assured they're all of the highest calibre and mixed tighter than a pair of Topman duds. Well recommended! in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

MORDANT MUSIC - Picking O'er The Bones

HIEROGLYPHIC BEING - So Much Noise 2 Be Heard

HIEROGLYPHIC BEING - So Much Noise 2 Be Heard (Mathematics US) Comentários: True-skool Chicago don Jamal Moss warms up his machines for another Hieroglyphic Being trip on Mathematics with this vinyl version of the recently released CD. You'll know by now there's no shortage of love for the raw and almost punked Chicago sound of Jamal Moss, the appointed flame carrier for the old skool Ron Hardy/Armando aesthetic and standard bearer for ruff, psyched and funkin effective house music. While not quite as squashed as last years 'Bathroom Sessions' on Morphine, 'So Much Noise 2 Be Heard' is defiantly Jamal Moss, and uncompromisingly covers all angles of his strong willed style. The punishing jack track opener 'Fingerprints Of The Gods' or the rudely lo-fi Euro synth and jackbeat killer 'MB Trax V' on the first plate are just appetisers for the seriously psyched gear on the second disc. 'The Pineapple Effect (Future Jazz Version)' is an instant winner, grinding looped pianos with hacked machine beats or getting ambient on 'Encounters Of A Third Kind', before dropping the stunning 'I Am That I Am (New Age House Re-Make)' sounding like you're trapped in the Music Box on some particularly strong Hoffmans with nowt but a thong on (Don't we all have that fantasy?). In his own words Jamal Moss describes his music as "encompassing an array of sounds and influences from Aboriginal Noises/Classic House/New Age/Acid/Free Jazz/Sufi Rhythms/Deep Soundscapes and Ragtime Electronics" which is far better than we can put it. The execution and purposefully lo-fi aesthetic is utterly devastating - one for the faithful! Essential Purchase. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

WATSON, Neville - Bleeding Through

WATSON, Neville - Bleeding Through (Clone Jack For Daze Holland) Comentários: Jack for Daze is one of the new Clone series of releases inspired by the early house releases from Chicago. One of the main inspirations of the Clone crew... First release is done by Neville Watson, known for his collaboration with Kink. Two sweet tracks that are highly influenced by Joe Lewis and Larry Heard. Two tracks that sound as if they came out of a time machine. Clone founder Serge produced a modern jack track together with Gerd as bonus track. Back into the studio since a long time and just playing around they came up with a nice hybrid mix somewhere inbetween an old Gherkin Gherks / Larry Heard release and a modern club track. Crazy low bass kick and a classic jacking percussion drive combined with todays production skills. A proper club tool that compliments this first Jack For Daze release.. Very muchr recommended!! in clone [Para Ouvir/Samples]

HTRK - Marry Me Tonight

HTRK - Marry Me Tonight (Blast First) Comentários: HTRK release their debut album proper, having previously treated us to the sandblasting electronics of their live LP, Nostalgia. Marry Me Tonight is considerably cleaner and more focused than that effort, stripping the Melbourne group's sound to a largely electronic concoction comprising primitive beats and shards of post-rock influenced guitar and vocals that sound like the work of a comatose Kim Gordon. 'Kiss Before The Fall' sounds like a modern-day 'Venus In Furs' with its thudding drone-rock sensibilities, the crisp, unconditioned drum machine linking up with what sustaining guitar tones in a robotic VU-influenced fashion. 'Ha' revels in its skeletal no-wave influence, grinding bass tones against a drum pattern that's equally indebted to Pan Sonic and Suicide (the album definitely starts to feel like a tribute to the Blast First label at times, though that's certainly no criticism). Certain tracks, like 'Fascinator' and 'Rent Boy' have closer run-ins with pop music, stamping out melodies in a more forthcoming fashion and consequently giving this icily cool LP a more accommodating side that'll ease you into. in boomkat Marry Me Tonight lembra-me a sonoridade dos Chromatics, é melancolico, electrónico, pos punk qb., recomenda-se! KROMESTAR - My Sound

KROMESTAR - My Sound (Dubstar) Comentários: Original dubstep souljah Kromestar is objectively the dubstep scene's most productive mind, notching up some 100 releases under a slew of pseudonyms including Droid and Iron Soul touching bass on Dubstep and myriad other post-garage mutated variants. Whether working in collaboration with Hatcha on the Brothers Grim project or providing beats for Durrty Goodz, Kromestar has nailed the sound of street level dubstep & grime and his beats are consequently in high demand. Released recently on his mate's Dub Star imprint, 'My Sound' is his first long player and surprisingly rammed with fresh-off-the-block riddims surpassing much of his previous output. Without the requirements for instant dancefloor gratification, he allows himself to piece together a set of deeper smoking joints with an overriding sense of skunky melancholy seeping through the hovering synth pads and blue melodica vibes. His riddims are as usual, quite exceptional, saving some of his leanest and sub-ducked patterns for this CD from the sick wobbler 'System log' to tru dub shuffle riddims on '8 Ball' or post R'n'B slink on 'Aston Martin'. This surely ranks with Cyrus' 'From The Shadows' as one of the best dubstep LP's from this end of the spectrum and comes recommended to all followers of the authentic dubstep sound. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

SINNER DC - Crystallized

SINNER DC - Crystallized (Ai Records) Comentários: The Swiss trio Sinner DC has been composing and releasing electronic music for over 13 years now. Their tracks have been included on the superb compilations of the “Global Underground Afterhours” series and their artist albums have been acclaimed by the European music media community. I’m sure their latest album ‘Crystallized’ will be well received, too. The first notes of the record place the listener in a concert hall, where he would eagerly await the show while listening to the melodies which come out of instruments being tuned. In ‘Anyway’, the orchestra is already moving full steam ahead, at the same time presenting a full scope of symphonic arrangements and a superb horn in the foreground. There’s one more song on this album that causes a sheer emotional tsunami. I’m talking ‘Digital Dust’ in which the monotonous, yet melodic and arranged in two voices vocal part reminds me of the majestic and mysterious atmosphere of the Pink Floyd's early works. ‘Crystallized’ is suffused with references not only to symphonic music, but also to progressive rock, world music, or insular folk. And if there were no turnings into the area of mainstream pop, which is clearly visible in the vocals of ‘The Medium is the Message’, I’d have swallowed this album in one piece. in soundrevolt [Para Ouvir/Samples]

MARCELLO NAPOLETANO - A Prescription Of Love EP

MARCELLO NAPOLETANO - A Prescription Of Love EP (Mathematics) Comentários: Mathematics continue their run of seriously well applied A&R skills with the latest catalogue number offered over to the fantastic Marcello Napoletano outta Lecce, Italy. The man Marcello has a serious talent for crafting authentic deep house grooves, best evidenced on the 'A Prescription Of Love EP', his debut vinyl release. His sound references all the legendary producers of deep house from New Jersey to Chicago but proudly stands alone with an innately personal touch in the perfected arrangements and cheery picked samples. The main reference point is in the title of the EP, giving a respectful nod to the rich purple hues of the Prescription label's Chez Damier, Ron Trent or Kerri Chandler but it's easy to hear traces of Lil Louis, Armando, Cajual or many others. Any deep house heads need a slap if they don't check this 12" out. Highly recommended!!! in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

JUNIOR BOYS - Begone Dull Care

JUNIOR BOYS - Begone Dull Care (Domino) Comentários: After two massively successful albums (critically and commercially) we'll admit to approaching this set with some trepidation. Their first album still ranks as one of the finest pop albums this decade, and despite losing core member Johnny Dark in the interim 'So This Is Goodbye' still has it's fair share of fans. So onto 'Begone Dull Care', their latest foray into tinted white-boy electro soul and MOR pop still featuring the pained vocals of Jeremy Greenspan and the sculpted beats of Matt Didemus. Is it any cop? Damn skippy. If anything, their previous effort sounds flaccid compared to this tightly puckered selection of deep-disco fried synthlines and pedigree electro rhythms, and thankfully Jeremy Greenspan can still coax a good spine chill or two out of our emotionally redundant selves. Opener 'Parallel Lines' immediately conjures comparisons to classic Chris & Cosey styled electropop albeit a little cosier (pardon me), while 'Work' blatantly takes inspiration from their time spent in Berlin with a well trained blend of minimised European house and disco driven by cold synthlines. 'Bits and Pieces' would be our pick for a single, fizzing with a rich analogue sound design and bearing a supremely fat subbass line. Just in case you thought it was just more of the same, there are reassuring surprises, like the dainty 'Dull To Pause' with music box melodies chiming along with charmingly naive strings, and the brilliant Radiophonic inspired intro to 'Sneak A Picture' which switches from deep space electronica to sweetest pop soul in the blink of an ear. This is going to take a few more listens to fully sink in but initial reactions are definitely positive and it's certainly safe to say that hardcore fans will not be dissappointed. Recommended. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

NEWWORLDAQUARIUM / TAHO- Delsin 2.0 Remix EP1

NEWWORLDAQUARIUM / TAHO- Delsin 2.0 Remix EP1 (Redshape Mix) (Delsin) Comentários: The original is already one of the most played tracks round our part of the world, so to have a Redshape re-working of Newworldaquarium's "Trespassers" on wax is quite the proposition - and despite us being totally attached to the original it's an utterly righteous, perfectly judged endeavour. The shiny House vibe of the original is maintained with those shimmering Fender Rhodes cascades, but the whole thing is toughened by a rugged bassline and an ingenious use of handclaps that imbues proceedings with a more pristine, technofied agenda. Over on the flipside Quince tackles Taho's 'Energy Fields' with hugely satisfying results, ending up with a quasi-filtered dubified techno shuffle that owns the deep end of the floor. Sick twelve. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples1] [2]

LOUDERBACH - Autumn

LOUDERBACH - Autumn (Minus Canada) Comentários: Minus has released a first rate selection of home grown artist albums over the past 18 months, with heartthrob, false and gaiser all creating long players of real substance and this trend is set to continue in 2009 with arguably the label’s most significant release of recent times. Louderbach’s long awaited second album autumn represents another jump in the evolutionary cycle of minimal techno, having developed from the largely instrumental project that gave us enemy love into a fully-fledged song based outfit. as a result, autumn has a much deeper feel than its predecessor and indeed breaks new ground, with the dark metaphors of gibby miller’s often chilling vocal performances fitting hand-in-glove with the ominous landscapes and broken architecture that troy pierce constructs so effectively. drawing on shared influences such as bauhaus, coil and joy division, the duo have conceived an album of emotional depth and exquisite detail, appropriating the best elements of these early-eighties pioneers and reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens to achieve a perfect balance of style and content. it’s the result of an unspoken understanding that spans thousands of miles from their respective homes in l.a. and berlin and this distant intimacy is a naturally occurring theme throughout the album, manifesting itself as dark, twilight tales of melancholy romance, burning obsession and the slow, disintegration of desire. in nuloop [Para Ouvir/Samples]

DAM FUNK - Let's Take Off (Far Away)

DAM FUNK - Let's Take Off (Far Away) (Stones Throw US) Comentários: Messed-up boogie from Dam Funk -- an incredible little set that takes the bass-heavy grooves of the early 80s, and blows them up with a real Stones Throw sensibility! There's no samples here -- just lots of heavy beats, bass, and keyboard bits from Dam -- really recorded with a sharp edge throughout -- so that the music ends up being kind of a cross between Wicked Witch and Zapp! VARIOUS - Milky Disco 2: Lets Go Freak Out

VARIOUS - Milky Disco 2: Lets Go Freak Out (Lo Recordings) Comentários: Two years ago Lo Recordings released a compilation of what was then being called Nu Disco or Cosmic Disco music. Excited by the wide spectrum of styles touched on in this new hybrid of electronic music, Lo collected together many of the leading artists including Lindstrom, Studio, Padded Cell, Black Devil and Emperor Machine to create a ‘quintessential cosmic compendium’. Now it’s time for another collection of beats, textures, melodies and vibrations whose influences range from Detroit techno to German experimentalism, 80’s west coast vibes, italo disco, soul, industrial, ambient and avant garde to create what could loosely be called ‘exploratory space dance music’. For us it’s this collision of styles and sounds that make this genre so appealing. Of course there have been other times when music has cross pollinated - when punk met dub, free jazz collided with rock, freaks got hairy, synthesizers exploded, disco dancers took acid… when the lion lies with the lamb and UFO’s appear to land in the garden, that’s the time we like the best. This compilation is designed to reflect the diversity and energy of what’s been going on over the last couple of years. Packed with exclusive tracks as well as a few ‘new underground classics’ like the rolling Throbbing Gristle meets Snatch slo-mo groove of ‘You Are Amen’, the neo prog deep bush kalimba vibes of ‘Pissed and Passed Out’ by Ghost Note, the Arthur Russell-ish narco-disco of Nite Jewel’s ‘What Did He Say’, Canyon’s deep space blues ‘Big City Lights’ and Gatto Fritto’s kraut meets disco epic ‘Hungry Ghosts’. You’ll also find brand new tracks by West Coast surf head Hatchback, LA dude Eddie Ruscha (Secret Circuit), New York’s Soft Circle (aka Hisham Bharoocha ex Black Dice drummer), Cornwall’s Kerrier District and Brighton’s Soft Rocks.Add to this unreleased remixes of Black Devil Disco Club,Glass Candy and Georges Vert by Richard Sen (Padded Cell), Brain Machine, Johan Agebjorn, and Rune Lindbaek. New discoveries like Pink Stallone from New York, Norwegian disco Viking Lukas Nystrand, italo fiend CFCF and east coast meets west coast duo Expanding Head Band (actually Tussleproducers Quinn Luke & Alexis Georgopoulos aka Bing Ji Ling and Arp!). Oh and there’s an exclusive track from Sorcerer in league with Milky Globe, possibly his best since the classic ‘Surfing At Midnight’, a new track from Soul Jazz’s Subway and Pete Lawrence of The Big Chill’s Chilled By Nature outfit remixed by Windsurf with vocals by no less than the legendary SwingleSingers. Phew! So there we have it, a disco compilation strong enough to stun an ox and just like the last Milky Disco compilation ‘If the gods are into music, I suspect they listen to this.
