Faceless

We present a faceless male silhouette that is masked by a second skin in this season's graphic prints and patterns in the current issue of Dazed, photographed by Kacper Kasprzyk and styled by Robbie Spencer. These faceless figures were largely prompted by Petrou Man's S/S 10 collection of patterned body skins but were then further propelled by Henrik Vibskov and Andreas Emenius' costumes which they worked on for their Circular Series, Section 1 project, a continuation of their Fringe Projects collaboration. Cameron Smith was on set to film these figures in the video below and we found out more about the originators of these protective yet provocative ensembles. [+ here]

Simplesmente Genial! Recomenda-se! [Para Ouvir/Samples]

SANDRA ELECTRONICS - It Slipped Her Mind

SANDRA ELECTRONICS - It Slipped Her Mind (Downwards) Comentários: Roused from a ten year slumber, Karl O'Connor's Sandra Electronics project recounts killer nightmarish drone assaults for Downwards. The lineup now consists of O'Connor and John Mendez aka Silent Servant, whose 'The Dull Age' 10" last year trod a similar path of Amon Duul-esque drone dirges with a darkly addictive quality. Both of the characters involved have long made clear their obsession/love for late 70's/early 80's industrial and post punk, finding explicit commonalities between bands like Suicide and Cabaret Voltaire's economical approach towards rhythm and sound, and their chosen field of industrial techno. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

RADIQ - Mo' Roots

RADIQ - Mo' Roots (Philpot) Comentários: COLOURED VINYL! Yoshihiro Hanno aka Radiq is a highly acclaimed musician and composer from Japan, now living and working between Tokyo and Paris. He did releases on imprints like Sub Rosa, Logistic and Progressive Form. Hanno worked with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Arto Lindsey or Ryuichi Sakamoto. Besides he got international fame as a composer for different film scores including work with Asian movie master Hou Hsiao-Hsien and film director Jia Zhang-ke. Radiq is since some time well aligned with the Philpot Camp. When he and SoulPhiction met again last year during the Philpot Tour in Japan, co-operation was affirmed and tracks were committed. Two of those funky nuggets are released here, one coming with a brilliant SoulPhiction remix treatment. in word&sound [Para Ouvir/Samples]

Elza Jo van Reenen: Glitter, Felt and Cats

Elza Jo initially studied graphic design at The Hague, before switching her major to photography. “I began doing graphic design but I really didn’t like it," she says. "They have quite a good graphic design program there. But it is mostly designing fonts, which is kind of nerdy work. During that year, I began imagining myself in an ergonomic chair, so I thought it was better for me to grab a camera and be outside.” [+ info]

Recommended!

Georgia Anne MULDROW - Kings Ballad (Ubiquity) Comentários: “King's Ballad is a celebration of creativity and uniqueness, things that are necessary to a meaningful life expression. It's about being yourself,” Georgia Anne Muldrow. Slicing pop n’lock-friendly funk with gospel and gracious soul Georgia Anne Muldrow is shining as a true West Coast original. The seeds of early experimental releases are now blossoming as her trademark scattershot beats and adventurous deep jazz melodies have grown to become the backbone for fully crafted songs. [Para Ouvir/Samples]
Gil Scott HERON - I'm New Here (XL) Comentários: He respectfully frames the gnarled voice of experience at the heart of the record whilst conjuring an often boldly contemporary soundscape, colliding different timelines on 'New York Is Killing Me' by mixing overdriven, sub-woofer-troubling bass drums with Delta-blues classicism and gospel handclaps. Very good indeed. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]
STRONG ARM STEADY - In Search Of Stoney Jackson (Stones Throw) Comentários: Heavyweight album of West Coast hiphop produced by Madlib and featurng gest spots from talib Kweli, Planet Asia, Oh No and Guilty Simpson.... A choice pick for the head-nod posse! in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

BISON - Way To LA

BISON - Way To LA (Claremont 56) Comentários: Great road songs are driven by a yearning for the distant city that can only come from those who don't live there, and like all the best ones Bison's 'Way to LA' feels dreamlike and timeless. Claremont 56 start 2010 with a single from their latest signing, Bison, made up of Holger Czukay, Ursa Major, Paul Mudd Murphy and Benjamin Smith. The first release takes you on a trippy rock-fuelled journey to the west coast of America, via Stuttgart and Holloway. On the a-side, 'Way to LA's bass throbs insistently, engines growl and bubble and Tom Petty power chords flash by in a swirl of Czukay reverb, fading like treacle. Ursa Major is at the wheel, her voice soothing. She knows where she's going. Cocooned in the cracked leather of the passenger seat beside her, nobody can stop you. You're on your way. The b-side takes to the highway with a darker sound. Holger Czukay puts his foot to the floor, pushing his mix up a gear and rounding off an essential debut release. Like the perfect road trip sunset, this release is epic and unforgettable. nota do editor [Para Ouvir/Samples]

Charlotte Koster "Greek Heads"

Charlotte Koster - The classical Greek head—a symbol of early high culture—has become kitsch, overused and milked of sentimentality, sold in all better discount shops. Here Koster has taken the same figments of grandeur and augmented them with dripping deer horns, a dirty monkey, a gleaning tick, and a drooling hamster-thing. [+ Here]

BAJKA - Bajka In Wonderland

BAJKA - Bajka In Wonderland (Chinchin Germany) Comentários: Bajka. the singer with that unique voice - the one you recognize immediately and will never forget... releases her first solo album “Bajka in Wonderland” in 2010 on ChinChin Records. She has been recording and releasing music for almost 15 years, doing features for other artists like Bonobo, Radio Citizen, Beanfield, etc., but has never released an album under her own name before. Fortunately you can now listen to a remarkable and outstanding musical vision, an album with eleven tracks! This was made possible through the co-operation with producer and composer team Daniel Regenberg and Jerker Kluge, both profiled Jazz musicians with a long list of projects and recordings of their own, and capable to handle the production of such a project. The lyrics for the album are all taken from „The Hunting of the Snark“, a whimsical poem written by Lewis Caroll, author of „Alice in Wonderland“. And the musicians managed to write a song for every chapter of the poem, covering the whole opus. nota do editor [Para Ouvir/Samples]

Roland P YOUNG - Istet Serenade

Roland P YOUNG - Istet Serenade (EM Japan) Comentários: 30 years since "Isophionic Boogie Woogie", Japan's EM Records brings us brand new Music form Roland P. Young. “Istet Serenade” is foray into the area of music space that represents the core of Roland’s sound philosophy, 'Isophonics'. The theory of composed improvisation of stillness in the fluidity of constant change. The thingness of actualized sound in the nothingness of acoustic evaporation and recreation from the source of the indwelling presence. This occurs at a speed which defies conscious comprehension but which reveals abundant spiritual revelatory aspects.Young says: 'The 10 pieces were chosen from 55 comprovisations created over the past year. My travels to and playing in the atmospheres of Israel, Prague, Rome, London, Paris, Istanbul and Santa Fe, New Mexico combined with my formative years in Kansas City, Missouri then my years in the Bay Area of Northern California and my current residence in Brooklyn, New York inform my music with ever expanding inspirations and creative possibilities. "Istet Serenade" is a slice of the possible.' in picadilly [Para Ouvir/Samples]

Haiti Ghetto Biennale

In December 2009, Tracey Moberly travelled to Haiti as a participating artist in the first Ghetto Biennale. She wrote the below article for the March issue of Dazed & Confused before the earthquake struck, but we have decided to pull forward publishing to draw attention to her appeal. Her photographs are all from downtown Port-au-Prince, an area that suffered intense damage just a month later and is now in the heart of the UN-designated 'Red Zone', preventing aid from reaching these embargoed areas.
