GONNO - Noughties

GONNO - Noughties (BIS) Comentários: Tim Sweeney's burgeoning Beats In Space Records heads to the Far East and collars Tokyo based producer Gonno for the excellent 12" The Noughties. Sunao Gonno has been releasing records since the mid 90s for labels such as W.C. Recordings and Perc Trax, yet it was the rather unexpected Acdise #2 12" for International Feel back in 2011 that brought the producer to wider attention, channelling deep melodic techno and dubby Balearic grooves with a killer remix turn from Skudge. As a notable expert in such sounds, it comes as little surprise that Sweeney has snapped up Gonno for the next release on his Beats In Space imprint. A similar approach from Gonno is evident on the three tracks here, which as the EP title alludes to were recorded between 2005 and 2009. "Are You Asleep" sees a downtempo groove and crisp arpeggios described by the label as tucking "the listener under a sequenced duvet", while "Salmon Is Jamming" provides a more club-ready take on his trippy analogue sound. That's in stark contrast to "Notoize", a beatless drift of escalating pads.

Mordant Music / Emmplekz - Nothing In Here Of Any Value / No Show (Live 2012)

Mordant Music / Emmplekz - Nothing In Here Of Any Value / No Show (Live 2012) Murky white wax with corrugated stiffener and art insert by Zeke Clough** Killer slab this, documenting the studio and live aktions of Mordant Music and the quadra-bonced beast, eMMplekz. We daresay you've never heard Mordant Music in his A-side incarnation, 'Nothing in Here of Any Value', reviving a "junglist note found in Savile's bleak holiday hideaway" and making it dance to a bleeding uncanny tattoo of swhorled modular ruckus and deep south coast duppies subsiding into stinky black bass waves, perhaps recasting Hastings as a New Orleans-like hub of undead UK dance music. Flipside is a riveting 21 minute recording of Ekoplekz (tableware) in syzygy with Baron Mordant (after dinner blather), Vindicatrix (brass polishing) and Zeke Clough (crowd control & 'MMagbow vs Promoter' daub) recorded live in Whitechapel, 06-10-2012. Amidst a miasma of throttled radiophonic bleeps and effluent bass roil the Baron barks observations on British culture with exhilarating, exemplary vigour. in boomkat

Kat Epple & Bob Stohl - Sanctus Spiritus

Kat Epple & Bob Stohl - Sanctus Spiritus (Dead-Cert) Another precious find from Andy Votel’s impeccable Dead-Cert imprint, Kat Epple & Bob Stohl made music for Carl Sagan, composed sound pieces for Planetariums and scored nature documentaries in the early 80’s. Most of their recordings were only ever released on private edition tape, with this selection hand-picked by Andy Votel, remastered and cut by Matt Colton and available on vinyl for the first time ever. Operating in Florida from 1978 until Bob’s untimely passing in 1989 at the age of 34, the husband/wife
duo were among the first to blend synthesisers and acoustic instrumentation in a home studio equipped with a variety of early synths and instruments. As lovers and collaborators, the couple created a rich and vivid parallel dimension of new age music borne from the ‘70s prog scene and probably best referred to as “Space Music”. Throughout their unfortunately curtailed career the couple earned a noble crust creating music and mood-pieces for nature programmes, most notably for the legendary Sagan, under the Emerald Web aegis (expect to hear more of this on Finders Keepers later on this year) while continuing to issue numerous tapes to friends and fellow musicians. Following contact with Kat Epple - who still plays concerts at venues ranging from MoMA to Ground Zero - Dead-Cert were made privy to Kat and Bob’s private tapes, drawing for five pieces ranging from brooding deep space scapes to shimmering, gaseous sonics and impressionistic sound murals streaked with progressive traits and an alien, yet pastoral nature. Recorded using an Arp 2600, Mini Moog, EML Synkey, Roland RS202 String Ensemble and Electro-Harmonix Vocoder, plus a range of woodwind (both Kat and Bob were trained flautists, making colourful use of Bill Bernardi’s innovative Lyricon I, a hybrid flute/synthesiser) with some guitar assists here and there by friend and co-composer, Barry Cleveland. Their music is rich and unapolagetically tethered to the Space-Age iconography of their age, the result being a warm and often highly unusual hybrid of Kosmische and Prog signatures, quite distinct from the more austere variants more recently associated with the era. in boomkat [Preview / Short Clip]

TRUE WEST - The DOWC Part 1 (Marmo) Tru West is an experimental project made of analog electronics and acoustic elements. Tru West recalls the elegance and decadence of some western musical traditions, as much as marking the path to the unknown. In The DOWC part 1, the opening release of Marmo Music, a punk and raw attitude stands out since the very first minute of listening. It feels like in that gloomy evening of October 2012 an improvised stream of sounds and manipulations came together spontaneously, resulting into some thick sonic matter, vibrating with the magnitude of the earth, nostalgically carrying folk memories of a beloved past, here embodied by the clarinet of Raffaele Amenta. The DOWC takes counts in total about 30 minutes of music and it`s gonna be released in two parts. Part 1 features on the flip side DJ Sotofett's Dype Skoger Mix, a monumental journey into wild and exotic sceneries, transforming the ruins of the old continent into an afro-persian mantra, featuring the hypnotic bongos and live drums of Cosmic Neman from Zombie Zombie (recorded by DJ Gilb`r at the parisian Versatile Studios) and the vocoder vocals of Paleologos. This is the point of view on Tru West by Martin Hopkins, core member of the project, and already known in the world of electronic music under the moniker of Mass Prod (Werkdiscs, Bosconi, MUS, Wo_land) : “ Tru West is an open musical project, a platform where music heads can freely speak their loudest noises and visions. Every Tru Wester should bring into the project music of any kind of form. To celebrate the fall of our beloved western civilization we used tape recorders, samplers, records, modular synths, a clarinet and an open mic. Sounds from different ages and places get processed and dubbed through any kind of technology or sound technique, shifting the space of sound, passing through music from tapes, field recordings, overdubs in the studio and the open mic of the studio room itself. Using the limits of analog technology we try to create something new, engaging chain reactions through clips, mics and sidechains ,sculpturing a fat mass of sounds that slowly finds its way out from the boiling magma of creation.“ Tru West is a project by Martin Hopkins - tapes, dubs / Niccolo` Daniel Rufo - vocals, sp 303 / Raffaele Amenta - clarinet / Herve` Hatse Corti - modular synthetizers / Matteo Tagliavini - Medium [Preview / Short Clip]

Lustmord - The Word As Power

Lustmord - The Word As Power (Blackest Ever Black) ** Illustration by Simon Fowler printed on reverse card stock** Celebrated sound designer and dark ambient pioneer Brian "Lustmord" Williams present his first album of vocal works for none other than Blackest Ever Black. Honed over the last half decade, 'The Word Is Power' is a carefully conceived shift away from purely instrumental sonics to the para-dimensional realms of the spoken word, featuring "incantatory" performances by Jarboe (ex-Swans), Maynard James Keenan (Tool), Aina Skinnes Olsen, and Soriah. In key with Simon Fowler's ornate, arcane cover illustration depicting multi-tiered layers of cryptic ciphers and evocative semantic deconstructions, the glacial pace and fathomless atmospheres of Lustmord's arrangement and production afford rarely paralleled and immersive nether space for escape and reflection. Two pieces, 'Babel' and 'Chorazin', based on "traditional elements" are faithfully performed by Aina Skinnes Olsen against abyssal backdrops of plunging subbass and ogre-groan pads, whilst the remaining five parts render variations on this theme, from Soriah's dread-full glossolalia in 'Grigori' -strongly reminding of Ghedalia Tazartes on the Reines D'Angleterre LP - to the long shadows of Jarboe cast upon 'Andras Sodom' or James Maynard Keenan's desolate appearance in the cavernous space of 'Abaddon'. While it may creep too close to big-budget soundtrack productions for some, as a body of work it's an inarguably impressive feat of studio prowess and unfaltering vision. in boomkat

Blondes - Swisher

The Blondes duo refract their house abstractions through a smudged psychedelic prism on 2nd album 'Swisher' for RVNG Intl. Picking up where their eponymous debut left off, Sam Haar and Zach Steinman start with the kosmic organ swell and atom-split rhythms of 'Aeon' before locking down to a driving, technoid momentum with 'Bora Bora' which carries through the album in the glyding dub-house gait of 'Andrew' to the ornate, future-baroque arpeggios of 'Poland' to the laser-grabbing, Belgian-styled trance-techno pump of 'Swisher' and the see-sawing synthlines and Kassem Mosse-like swagger of 'Wire'. Potent stuff, recommended for proper club use. in boomkat
