GONNO - Noughties
GONNO - Noughties (BIS) Comentários: Tim Sweeney's burgeoning Beats In Space Records heads to the Far East and collars Tokyo based producer Gonno for the excellent 12" The Noughties. Sunao Gonno has been releasing records since the mid 90s for labels such as W.C. Recordings and Perc Trax, yet it was the rather unexpected Acdise #2 12" for International Feel back in 2011 that brought the producer to wider attention, channelling deep melodic techno and dubby Balearic grooves with a killer remix turn from Skudge. As a notable expert in such sounds, it comes as little surprise that Sweeney has snapped up Gonno for the next release on his Beats In Space imprint. A similar approach from Gonno is evident on the three tracks here, which as the EP title alludes to were recorded between 2005 and 2009. "Are You Asleep" sees a downtempo groove and crisp arpeggios described by the label as tucking "the listener under a sequenced duvet", while "Salmon Is Jamming" provides a more club-ready take on his trippy analogue sound. That's in stark contrast to "Notoize", a beatless drift of escalating pads.
