Teengirl Fantasy make dream music. With a beat. On the surface, their song "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" is a remix of the much-covered 1978 hit. But it doesn't just put new drums behind what we already know. The revamp references its source with barely-there samples that seem to be fighting against interference. Because "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" is one of those songs that everyone knows, even if they don't know why or where they first heard it. Teengirl Fantasy know this, too, and their glazed compositions explore such unconscious nostalgia with eyes half-open. (Arguably more impressive, their live sets have been known to get Brooklyn indie rock kids moving with some semblance of rhythm.) The duo is made up of Oberlin College students Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss, who are currently studying abroad at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. They've got a few small releases to their name thus far-- including a Telepathe remix, the downloadable TGIF EP and "Hollywood Hills" single on Dick Move and the "Portofino" 7" on Merok-- and are currently 9 demos deep into their debut LP, which will be released next year on True Panther/Merok. We recently phoned the pair in the Netherlands to chat about the red light district, Mariah Carey, and nosy dentists. in pitchfork [+Dazed & Confused interview]

Pictureplane - Dark Rift (Lovepump United US) Comentários: Picture Plane is 24-year old Travis Egedy, and he represents the more futuristic side of the post-house music, electronic new wave of the present millennium. He brings a cosmic consciousness to bear as he explicates the album’s title and theme: “Once every 26,000 years our planet crosses through the elliptical plane at the center of our galaxy known as the dark rift. The songs on Dark Rift lyrically deal with humanity entering a new age or next phase of our existence…” The cosmic, sci-fi theme is paired with an earthly, mechanical mentality on the clatter and clang of the beat-driven “Boys in Blush,” but “Trance Doll” plays around with a more chilled-out, spacey sound; it also sports some better than average vocalizations, considering the context. A lot of this stuff has a cut-and-paste quality, as displayed on “Goth Star,” which loops a Fleetwood Mac sample as it performs its heavy duty dance moves on an unsuspecting world. Although it took a few listens to reveal itself, this is not just “dance music.” There’s a definite human element that peeks its head out of the portal occasionally, and the whole affair grows on you like a kind of itchy rash. in imposemagazine "Dark Rift" it's a weird combination of eurodance with something caught on the past rave scene, it doesn't fit in a particular kind of musical genre... but it fills up a lot of diferent elements which might be considered "harsh" for some people when they ear it, anyway we like it, sounds like a party that will never end. mu [Para Ouvir/Samples]

D'Marc Cantu - Another Number 5 Track EP (Creme Jak) Comentários: Finally a full EP by D'Marc Cantu (1/2 of 2AM/FM and under other aliases involved in collabo's with Traxx). Technically it's the follow up to his cult hit ''No Control'' (Creme JAK 02, today a highly sought after 12'') and in good H-H-H-House fashion this EP contains a ball busting JTC remix of this anthem. But the centre piece must be the title track; one of the most emo-simplo JAK trax we've ever heard here at the office. Starting out simple enough with a single finger synth line (like the musings of a retarded secretary), it mutates into a big wailing distorted saxophone (or a mating whale, who knows?), this puppy will fill your room and throw everybody into an instant K-hole. Hey, if that don't sound appealing check the soundclips for proof, it's pure LIBERATION... nay REBIRTH! More floor destroying crazyness on the flipside, but we're all out of steam describing it. ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER - Betrayed In The Octagon

ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER - Betrayed In The Octagon (NO FUN) Comentários: Having initially emerged as a cassette on Deception Island in 2007, the tremendous No Fun Productions reissues Betrayed In The Octagon with re-sequenced tracks and a remastered sound for vinyl. Far removed from the sort of noisy deluge you might ordinarily expect from the Brooklyn label this LP is a feast of analogue synthesis that's sure to please fans of Popol Vuh, Emeralds, J. D. Emmanuel and early electronics exponents like Raymond Scott. From the steady-handed opening tones of 'Woe Is The Transgression I' you know this is going to be rather special, and sure enough, by the time you finish the first side with the cascading arpeggios of the title track you'll be in vintage electronics heaven. Not only is it all so effortlessly warm and saturated in woozy tape warble, it's also wonderfully tuneful and unselfconscious, for which Massachusetts synth wrangler Daniel Lopatin should be greatly applauded. in boomkat

VARIOUS - Drumpoems Verse 2

VARIOUS - Drumpoems Verse 2 (Drumpoet Community) Comentários: Swiss housers Drumpoet Community gather their crew together for a deep dancing affair on the label's second compilation. With high production values and a reverent respect for the generation of producers like Larry Heard, Ron Trent and Chez Damier before them, Drumpoet Community has played a crucial role in the rise of nu-Deep House in recent years, providing a base for figures like Manuel Tur, John Daly and Quarion to roll out their ultra-smooth house tributes. For 'Verse 2' expect deeply burnished and heavyweight house from Hunee's 'Took My Love' to The Lost Men (aka label head Alex Dallas with Bernd Kunz) on 'More Of That', Soultourist's well-toned dancer 'Fo-Eva', John Daly's excellent highlight 'Lonely Beat', and more from Quarion, Cavalier, Langenberg, Azuni and Crowdpleaser. TRAXX - Faith

TRAXX - Faith (Nation) Comentários: Dirty Criminal Melvin Oliphant links up with James T Cotton and D'Marc Cantu for a double pack of raw and effective Chicago house, done the old-skool way. 'Violet Epoch' and 'Enka' are striaght up jack tracks, built from rugged patterns and evil noises, while 'Parametric Melody' features narcotic keys from Tiny and an unnamed but very cool vocal, while 'My Soul' is a less successful workout with uncomfortably fitting vocals from Nancy Fortune. The best tracks are definitely those produced in collaboration with James T Cotton aka Tadd Mullinx, either on the ruff 'Cosmic ZigZag', or the extended final scene 'XTC 4 Luv' featuring the two getting deeep into their box-banging groove. FACT mix 91: Starkey

More influenced by grime than its more popular cousin, dubstep, Starkey's made a name for himself with some of this decade's most dynamic, overblown dance music: bass-heavy club tracks that are rhythmically all over the place, constantly changing direction, with dramatic key changes and leadlines that sear higher than the stars before imploding like dying stars. Starkey has one of the biggest sounds around - and not in a cheap, tearout dubstep sense - his tracks carry tons of physical and emotional weight; tracks like 'Miracles' and 'Crippling' some of the most beautiful tracks produced by this anything goes, post-garage music. For a full interview with him, check the second page of this article. Download: FACT Mix 91 - Starkey (Available for three weeks)

V/A - Panorama Bar 02 Part I

V/A - Panorama Bar 02 Part I [featuring Lerosa & Basic Soul Unit] (Ostgut Ton Germany) Comentários: Ahead of Tama Sumo's massive Panorama Bar 02 release, Ostgut Ton lay down two of the mixes heaviest cuts from Basic Soul Unit and Lerosa. Basic Soul Unit tracks have been a constant fixture in Tama's mixes, opening up her awesome LWE mix (track this down people!) and appearing regularly in her late afternoon P'bar slots. 'Things Pass' is a hefty dose of classical Chicago dancing gear combining insistent tracky vibes with soul-moving synthline abstraction in a studied Larry Heard style leading up to an immense climax. Lerosa's 'Plesso' follows a similar route to the 'floor with leaden kicks and a chewy square bassline with trippily spacious atmosphere's for a sinister late evening groove. A smart choice! in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

A MADE UP SOUND - Rework & Closer

A MADE UP SOUND - Rework & Closer (A Made Up Sound) Comentários: After his recent release on Clone A Made Up Sound (aka 2562) presents his new platform for his own beat freakery. It is no news anymore that Dave Huismans is one talented guy! His debut 2562 album was one of last years highlights.. and his new album set for early winter 09 will be not create a smaller buzz! In the meanwhile mr Huismans also managed to squeeze out some killer tracks out of his machines for his A Made Up Sound project! These 2 tracks will get a limited run on his newly started label. 'Rework' started out as a sneaky bonus remix but ended up as a killer techno track in its own right, with stomping 4/4 beats, an irresistibly simple 3 note chord melody and gut-wrenching sub bass. Contrasting is 'Closer' on the flip, where a yearning vocal stab spirals around a warm synth line that just keeps on building over signature punchy broken beats and a big b-line, all the way until its climaxing breakdown. Highly recommended! in clone [Para Ouvir/Samples]

24 de Outubro "Manhã Triste @ LX Factory

SHACKLETON - Three EPs (Perlon Germany) Comentários: The august rhythm auteur Shackleton gives us all something to get very excited about with the release of his debut solo long player (of sorts) for the equally revered Perlon imprint. [...] The large majority of this material is fresh off the block, sounding like they came from a consistent set of sessions featuring the producer in a particularly febrile mood, like the restless drones and tense syncopations of 'Moon Over Joseph's Burial', and 'It's Time For Love', or the eastern influences cyclically bleeding through on 'Mountain Of Ashes' or closer 'Something Has Got To Give'. However, quite possibly the best track here is an old favourite, with the overcast vista of 'There's A Slow Train Coming' making a hugely welcome appearance to these ears. Without a doubt, we can say this is one of the albums of the year and should reward any investments twice over in sheer sonic thrills and an entirely unique experience you won't hear anywhere else. Bravo. in boomkat [Para Ouvir/Samples]

LOWTEC - Angstrom EP

LOWTEC - Angstrom EP (Polyfon Germany) Comentários: Since the 90's Lowtec is a reliable source for good deep techno tracks. Gerard Estadella

Gerard Estadella likes to party. Hardcore. Having outgrown his first posting board a couple of years back the Barcelona native decided to acquire a fully fledged URL to host the growing wealth of shots he found himself snapping at friend’s parties and club nights across Europe on his travels as a DJ. “Whenever I felt lazy for not posting on the blog for a week I'd just update with photos and no text,’ he explains “It was much easier and in a way nicer than using words so I decided to go down that road and just update with photos. After really getting into it I decided that the amount of pics I was posting didn’t really suit a blog. So that's when began.” Read More [Here]

IAN SIMMONDS - The Burgenland Dubs

IAN SIMMONDS - The Burgenland Dubs (Musik Krause) Comentários: "Ian Simmonds is perhaps better known s a member of early 90's acid jazz outfit The Sandals, but more recently can be found producing jazz and dub rooted beats for Musik Krause, the same label that offered the world the oft eccentric music of Wighnomy Bros and Robag Wruhme. 'The Burgenland Dubs' is a contemplative set of downbeat and jazz informed rhythms complemented by Ian's vocals set within a dub heavy atmosphere. His is a self created world of classic styles augmented by up-to-date production methods, melding the natural with the digital, flowing from 4/4 minimalism to more atmospheric downtempo cuts like the dreamy 'The Dog' which also appeared on Michael Mayer's 'Immer 2' mix" in boomkat. 'The Burgenland Dubs' meets minimal electronic, modern jazz, broken beat, oriental and afro beats, the result it's a interesting groove pallete, recommended! mundourbano [Para Ouvir/Samples]

Micachu & The Shapes 20 & 21 of Nov.

Micachu is the stage name of Mica Levi, a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist born in Surrey, England, and raised in the Bow area of East London. Levi's music, which she calls experimental pop, is a boundary-blurring mix of hip-hop-tinged beats, found sound samples, singalong melodies, rock guitar, and the odd vacuum cleaner or two. She also makes her own instruments, including the Chu, an adapted guitar that she named after herself. Micachu and the Shapes toured that spring and summer, playing with the Mystery Jets and dates at Bestival and V Festival. In spring 2009 Micachu's debut album, Jewellery, was released by Rough Trade Records. in mog
