Comme des Garçons: Furniture Catalog, 1990.
This book is a “furniture catalog” published by Comme des Garçons in 1990. “COMME des GARCONS Furniture”, which is not well-known to modern Garson fans, was created in about 10 years from the 1980s to the 90s. Originally it was made for store fixtures, but sales started at the request of an Italian furniture manufacturer. Furniture by Satoshi Kawakubo, who has a strong commitment to “space” and creates “design” from a broad perspective, is extremely simple. "Secondary thing" that the person says. Rather than functionality, it is designed as “one element that composes the space” using materials such as “concrete”, “iron”, and “lead” that I am interested in. In this catalog, 28 furnitures are recorded, but it does not end with a general product list like Garson, but the beauty of the form and the image of the design are described in the abstract, and a catalog that stimulates various imaginations is. Separate price list included (envelope is missing). If you would like to know the background and ideas of furniture design, please see “Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garcon” by Deyan Sudjic.
