Physcomitrium turbinatum X 4, 1915. | Terre Thaemlitz - Comp x Comp (Comatonse Recordings)

Physcomitrium turbinatum X 4, taken from American Nature-study Society, Vol.11,  April 1915.

"Physcomitrium turbinatum (Mx.) Brid. is often called the «Urn Moss» because the dry and empty capsule is urn-shaped. But before we go further in our consideration of this moss let us get our bearings by a little general description of the characters of mosses. The moss plant, like the higher plants, has stem-bearing leaves; and it has at the base of the stem long slender threads that do the work of roots though they are much more like the roothairs of the higher plants, as they are only one cell in diameter though several cells long. These are called rhizoids. Mosses are spore plants, that is instead of producing seeds they reproduce by tiny single cells called spores. These spores are produced in a tiny ''capsule'' which is borne on a stalk called «seta» or sometimes pedicel" (A. J. Grout, 1915: 204-205). in  American Nature-study Society, Vol.11,  April 1915.

Music Suggestion:

Released on January 5, 2019. A compilation of electroacoustic and ambient tracks released on compilations over the years by Terre Thaemlitz (aka DJ Sprinkles). Tracks are listed in alphabetical order. Contains the previously unreleased "Mille Glaces.000-009," a series of ten audio shorts intended for release in an anniversary compilation for the label Mille Plateaux (DE), which I believe was canceled during the 2003 bankruptcy. In keeping with the "Mille Plateaux" theme, "Mille Glaces" (or "One Thousand Layers") is generated using one thousand 1-minute audio excerpts from the Mille Plateaux catalog. "Mille Glaces.000" is a digital mix of 1000 layers of audio heard simultaneously. "Mille Glaces.001-009" are recordings of my computer crashing as it attempts to play the same files in real-time (a Power Macintosh 7100 with Sound Designer II card). One of my favorite tracks is «Sex on a Real Train» a reinterpretation of Tangerine's Dream  (Risky Business Soundtrack) «Love On A Real Train». What an absolute banger!
