Conceptual artist Dóra Maurer rose to prominence in the 1970s with graphic drawings and prints, minimal abstract paintings, black-and-white photographs, structural films, and absurdist performance pieces. Born in Budapest, Maurer is among a generation of neo-avant-garde Hungarian artists whose experimental works challenged the country’s Communist regime with irony and humor. Change and displacement are common themes in her works. Maurer has received retrospectives at Tate Modern (2019–21) and Museum Haus Konstruktiv (2021). Her work is housed in institutional collections such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Hungarian National Gallery. via artsy
