Alexandre Bazin is a French musician, journalist, and documentary producer (eg. Christian Fennesz, Phill Niblock, Ryūichi Sakamoto, etc...), renowned for his experimental approach to sound.
He performed at the Moogfest festival in the USA in 2018 (alongside Caterina Barbieri and Kali Malone's “Upper Glossa”). live on France TV CultureBox in 2021, he plays at La Gaîté Lyrique in 2022. Le Trabendo ( alongside Lorenzo Senni & Donato Dozzy) and Point Éphémère (alongside Brandt Brauer Frick) in 2023.
Bazin is a key figure in the contemporary experimental music scene. He also produces monthly documentaries for Radio France & Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) tracing the history of the experimental scene from its beginnings to the present day.
His work has been released by celebrated labels such as Important Records and Umor Rex, cementing his reputation as a bold and innovative artist.
Bazin’s music is defined by meticulously exploring sound textures, saturations, and feedback, often incorporating autosampling and carefully tuned fragments. This process allows him to extract new melodic elements in real-time, creating pieces that blur the boundaries between composition and live performance. His minimalist aesthetic, paired with an obsession for melody and structure, reached new heights with Innervision. Described as epic, euphoric, and at times violently beautiful, the album marks a turning point in his discography, demonstrating a compelling evolution in his sound.
Bazin’s most recent album, THERAPY, delves deeper into experimental electronic music while drawing inspiration from ambient and classical traditions. Instrumental and immersive, the album features rich sonic textures and saturated tones reminiscent of electric guitar. Acoustic and orchestral elements form the foundation of much of the work, complemented by two standout synthesizer-led tracks: the opening Synthi A solo and a follow-up performed on the Buchla Music Easel. Through this innovative blending of timbres, Bazin crafts texturally intricate and emotionally resonant music, solidifying his place as a singular voice in contemporary experimental music.
About the mix: «I've made a rather ambient mix, where the sounds are given time to unfold during a quiet listening session. You'll find the ethereal guitars of Sqürl, Stephen O'Malley, Martina Lussi and Christian Fennesz, the inventiveness of Kara-Lis Coverdale, the electronic coolness of Tim Hecker, Scanner & Olga Wojciechowska, the cosmic music of Carmen Villain, the precursory sound of Bernard Parmegiani, the field recording of KMRU and Francis Harris, the melancholy of Adriaan de Roover, the synthesizers of Francesco Gennari and Alessandro Cortini, and the spatial perceptions of Jessica Ekomane» Alexandre Bazin.
