OUTLINES - Listen To The Drums (Jazzanova remix)
Comentários: Few acts manage to start such a commotion with their first 12" as Outlines with 'Just A Little Lovin'. Even though that release was delayed by 2 years due to a complication getting a sample cleared, and the track was already brought into circulation by bootleg guerrillas in the mean time. After this hit which nobody could get out of their ears, and got shouts of praise from people like Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier, King Britt, Mr Scruff and Josh Wink, the expectations for the follow up are high. But with 'Listen To The Drums' the French men, Irfane and Jerome, (who have been friends since their school days) land their next hit together with legendary graffiti artist Jay1. The three of them combine their musik and art through self-drawn covers and videos.
The track itself consists of hip-hop style samples in combination with a wide afro beat.
Outlines happened to meet up with Fat Freddy's Drop in Berlin and they soon got the New Zealanders in the studio to record the horns for the song. "Considering the coverage and support 'Just A Little Lovin' received it would have been easy for Outlines to lay down a similar blueprint and return with more of the same uplifting, happy jazz business. Instead they return with 'Listen To The Drums', a refreshingly subtle, clever, understated and in many ways much more accomplished single, fusing Afrobeat, jazz and deep house to simple but brilliant effect. PS, there's a Jazzanova mix on there too. DJ Magazine. [nota do editor]
