Coyote Clean Up - M.U. Podcast 37# (Feb. 2012)

Coyote Clean Up is a rising musician based in Detroit. «Surfacing on the radar via a beautifully poised dub take on “Hey Sparrow” by Peaking Lights sometime over the summer months, it soon became clear Coyote Clean Up (or Ice Cold Chrissy) worked at a prolific rate”. About the mix: The weather here in Michigan has been extremely moody. Snowing one day, raining the next, freezing the next day, followed by sweatshirt weather. I think it's creating havoc on everyone's emotions... or maybe it's just me? I guess it's safe to say this mix illustrates these turbulent times, both in the atmosphere, and here on earth. I have so many new releases coming out, I can't even keep track. Wax, tapes, remixes, etc, etc. FROZEN SOLID will be out soon on 100% SILK which is a deep multidimensional and blurry trip into the bedroom/club crossover underworld. I'm always looking to push things further, and plan on doing so. Hopefully I'll get out of Detroit soon and do some traveling, because this place is killing me! (laughs). Mendeel Um A7mad (N x I x S x M)

Mendeel Um A7mad (N x I x S x M) is a multimedia installation by Fatima Al Qadiri and Khalid al Gharaballi, to be exhibited at Contemporary Art Platform Kuwait (CAP) in Kuwait. The project presents the tissue box as an unlikely Kuwaiti national icon. The two-part installation consists of a film projected inside a monumental tissue box — created in collaboration with Kuwait-based designers Aziz Alqatami and Nanu Al-Hamad. The film aims to create a representation of the Chai Dhaha ritual, a traditional female forum, using an all-male cast in homage to Abdul Aziz Al-Nimish–who pioneered gender role reversal in Kuwaiti theatre. In Mendeel Um A7mad (NxIxSxM), the Chai Dhaha ritual is set out-of-context, in a wedding ballroom to illustrate the absurd spatial conditions of post-oil boom Kuwaiti interior aesthetics, where designing to human scale took a backseat to supersized ostentation. The tissue box sculpture acts as a displaced, large-scale replica of an actual box featured in the film–a sixth “character,” performance instigator and voyeur/witness. Exhibition open from Wednesday January 25 to Thursday February 9th, 2012 . Hours: 5-9pm. Closed Fridays. via dismagazine

Afrika Pseudobruitismus - Scratching Peace Symbols in The Sky

Afrika Pseudobruitismus is a profilic musician based in Melilla (a spanish town on the Nort Coast of Morocco), his identity is kept in secret : "on some way I work on a confortable cladestinity ... in a couple of months I'll begin my first concerts in Spain". He doesn't consider himself a graphic designer but he prefer to say " I am a collagist ...". AP has also other aliases named under Olelé Brut and Heavy Metal Brut but his main focus is on Afrika Pseudobruitismus, he has a new collection of tropical hypnagogic material clashed with some wild sci-fi and ambient drone scapes called "Scratching Peace Symbols in The Sky". The nature of his audio collages suggest the same passion of earlier James Ferraro works " I suppose this is a influence in the last times, but sunshine pop and psychedelic pop of the 60's too, a lot of protoelectronica... My influences are always changing with the time, I began making electronic noise... surrealism and trash are great influences too". You cant go wrong with this one. Embrace the Futurismo of AfrikaPseudobruitismus. Download for free "Scratching Peace Symbols in The Sky" on Bandcamp. Check more 'LSD' musical trips on A.P. soundcloud.

IVVVO- M.U. Podcast 36# (January 2012)

Ivo Pacheco is described has «A self-taught de-constructionist» . IVVVO is an upcoming Portuguese artist Based in Porto. Some of you might think that his sound is related to the dead genre “Witch House”, in my belief his style (for now) feels like it has a ‘haunted’ post-dubstep expression engraved with an obscure edge (but also very organic). You can place Ivvvo’s aesthetic for an example in stuff made by Holy Other, Balam Acab and Christopher Dexter Greenspan also known as oOoOO . He released in August 2011 an amazing EP called “Her” on Terrain Ahead imprint and he also had collaborated in a side project named Baliac (Ivo Pacheco [IVVVO] and Bruno Deodato [Trikk]). New Projects: a project called Bastet in a collab with Chainless and a new EP called “Falls in the Lava” coming out in March 2012. About the mix : “are just tracks I like, nothing more” Ivvvo. Perispirit - Spiritual Church Movement (Digitalis)

Perispirit - Spiritual Churck Movement (Digitalis) Comentários: Perispirit is the collaborative project of Ricardo Donoso and Luke Moldof, here delivering their debut album proper after a number of cassette editions for Prurient's Hospital Productions and Ricardo's own Semata imprint. The sound they make is brilliantly impossible to categorise, bringing together analogue and digital electronic sound sources to create a freakish organism that reminds you of anything from Keith Fullerton Whitman to Prurient to Autechre to purist musique concrète without batting an eyelid - split into two extended, musically expansive pieces. The recording process finds Moldof's analogue source material dissolved by Ricardo's digital sorcery and transmuted into fleetingly fractal, yet matrix-like productions where digital demons appear half-formed in a cacophonous miasmah of symphonic swells and deflected FM signals. They summon the ghosts of a world tormented, phased and riddled with electromagnetic radiation and endless data-ritus; a pair of dark interpreters operating on the liminal peripheries and communing between dimensions. In their attempts to consolidate the two opposing realms information is mauled and disfigured in translation, as heard in the sprawl of crumbling numbers and decimated textures on. Imagine the coarse grained analog apparitions of Giuseppe Ielasi's Bellows project re-mapped by a malfunctioning Autechre patch and the unexpected results just about conjure up the spirit of the sounds on offer. On the B-side 'Attn: Deficit Disorder', their concentration becomes eroded by myriad info-streams - a lone melody provides the one steady, sustained element amidst a stream of flickering arrangements, flashing between mindwarping noise and disintegrating synth shapes, goading the imagination to hear and see sound images which may, or may not, be there. in boomkat

Dean Blunt feat. Inga Copeland: “Choice of a New Generation”

Dean Blunt

We’ve had Dean Blunt, Inga Copeland, Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland, and now Dean Blunt featuring Inga Copeland: whatever. It still has “Hype Williams” written all over it. Not sure (as usual) if “Choice of a New Generation” is the correct title (a simple “Track 2″ has also been suggested), but that’s how it was tagged on YouTube. In any case, it’s gonna appear on Blunt’s forthcoming solo effort The Narcissist II. Exceptionally gentle and smooth and almost not twisted in any way at all, we totally dig this one. via no fear in pop

Fatima Al Qadiri - How Can I Resist U

How Can I Resist U

«Fatima Al Qadiri's 'How Can I Resist U' is a love letter to London in general and Dubstep (before it wobbled) in particular. "Lenden" as it's known has become a historic site of pilgrimage for wealthy Arabs seeking the forbidden fruits of sex, drugs and alcohol. Interspersed with Youtube footage of Ma'alaya dances specific to Gulf countries like UAE and Oman--the super cars, dancing girls and brutalist council estates in the video are part of the down-and-dirty dream that a trip to London signifies for Khaleejis (Gulf Arabs). The color of the video is based on an infamous Arab royal's custom 'Gulf Blue' Koenigsegg CCXR that terrorized the streets of the city's posh neighborhoods. Video by Sophia Al-Maria.»

Pimmon - M.U. Podcast 35# (January 2012)

PIMMON

Cover Art by Sophie Hutchings

Pimmon (Paul Gough) is known as «the prolific godfather of Australian electronics». His latest work 'The Oansome Orbit' released on Nov.11 at Room40 : « We can hear parallels in this rhetoric and aesthetic with everyone from Fennesz to Leyland Kirby».

About the mix: The mix features quite a few Australian artists that I love as well as tracks I've been listening to a lot in the last year. It has a nostalgic bent - with artists like Severed Heads & Lithops - Ellard & St.Werner being 2 electronic giants in my opinion.I'm also very fond of loopy/cut-up stuff along the lines of Monster Rally, Stock, Hausen & Walkman - more recently the magic of Australian artist Thomas William.
I will have new releases / first is a collab release with Fabio Orsi released on Home Normal called 'Procrastination'. April release. I'm preparing to return to Europe in March - playing shows in the UK, France, Germany, Norway, Belgium and Italy. There will be a UK & Europe tour CD release as well. Then pimmon full length towards end of the year." Regards, Paul.

Morreu António Cunha, pioneiro da música de dança em Portugal

"A true pioneer of the portuguese Rave movement and founder of a label that became our biggest and most formative influence during the 90's: Kaos Records".
Marcou a noite e muitos DJ nacionais”.

Pictureplane - Dimensional Rip 7: Thee Physical Remixes

"Pictureplane's "Thee Physical" was a conceptual work about how we, as humans, relate to our 3rd dimensional world by experiencing it physically through touch. and our experience of being human inside of physical bodies in a post-physical digital age. this collection of remixes is a continuation of these concepts, each remixer being hand selected by Pictureplane to work with the digital skeletons of each song, to carry out their own visions of what Thee Physical meant to them, and their physical forms. This remix double album, is the 7th Dimensional Rip. which is an ongoing conceptual art work by Travis Egedy (Pictureplane). Each Dimensional Rip is meant to be just that: a rip or tear within space and time. a way of putting something out into the universe that helps to alter perception and the very world that it exists in. past Dimensional Rips have been anything from group art exhibitions, a zine, a mix of slowed down happy hardcore, or a performance artwork inside of an art museum. the 7th Dimensional Rip is no different." Nova Scotian Arms - Cult Spectrum

Nova Scotian Arms - Cult Spectrum (Digitalis) Comentários: Since 2009 Grant Evans has been peering ever deeper into the kosmische abyss with his records as Nova Scotian Arms for Aguirre, Preservation and Hooker Vision. He's also known for the lush Quiet Evenings releases with his wife, Rachel Evans (Motion Sickness Of Time Travel), but in solo flight his sound is more wide-eyed, exploratory, reaching heady new climes on 'Cult Spectrum', arguably his most vivid vision yet. Perhaps it's thanks to an exquisite mastering job by Lawrence English, but there's a tangible elevation and expansion of his sound here, offering panoramic views of intergalactic proportions while still remaining true to a fairly stripped down and modest aesthetic. It's a melancholy sound, composed with considerable grace and tact. To open, 'Gathering/Composition' renders this dichotomy with the tension between stereo-swirling, dissonant cosmic synth swells and vast, yawning bass subduction, before the shimmering harmonics of 'Overcast (1st Delay)' are lapped by crashing waves of tempered synth noise which spray off into infinite space. And that sense of space is no more lucid than ever on 'Emulsion', an epic 16 minute zone of gaseous synth hues mingled with distanced shoegaze strums and banking dissonance seemingly scythed and shaped by some spectral hand. via boomkat

About the mix: "I'd rather not give any information about the mix or say anything about the mix directly."

HOLY STRAYS (NOT NOT FUN/FR) + CANKUN (NOT NOT FUN/FR) + MANUEL CARVALHO (BCN): January 11, BARCELONA

Holy Strays and Cankun, alongside with Manuel Carvalho, will be presenting their latest material in Miscelanea on the 11th of January. It will be a night full of electronica, beats, and psychedelia, don't miss it!
Three high quality acts for 6 euro, members of Miscelanea pay 5 euro, check out the videos to see if you like it! + info

HOLY STRAYS (NOT NOT FUN/ FR)

Holy Strays is the recently adopted nom de plume of a young Paris-based producer, who delivers equally massive and intimate beats. His sub bass grooves and frenetic rhythms usually melt with atmospheric patterns, with a sound sometimes aluding to nu-jazz, R&B or even jungle. In a year or so HS remixed Forest Swords and shared the stage with Sun Araw, Prince Rama, Terror Bird, Ela Orleans, High Wolf, Cankun and Cough.

Hartzine Session - Holy Strays "Faint Beams Ceremony" from Hartzine on Vimeo.

CANKUN (NOT NOT FUN/ FR)

French haze aesthete Vincent Caylet has been active on the marginal music frontlines in various capacities for several years at this point but Cankun is a even brighter-lit hideaway of mirages to pass out in. Chiming guitars balance-beam above looping heatwaved keyboards. Escapist, joyous, and psychedelically sunburned in equal measure.

MANUEL CARVALHO (BCN)

Manuel Carvalho makes synthetic psychedelia with noise and drone parts. His music consists of electronic elements that incorporate figures and oriental considerations, a maximalist micro-cosmos crowded by samples of persian rock, space ships, water aliens and synth solos of breeze-waving hair and with face forward to the sky. He will present his recently released EP "Manta" together with new and unedited material.

Cepheus

Fashion collides with the cosmos in Andrew Weir’s debut fashion film, Cepheus. With feature film level post-production & special effects by Industrial Color, a bombastic original score by Tristan Bechet (composer behind Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are) and a host of gauzy pieces from McQueen, Rick Owens and Versace, the film creates a captivating mood all its own: hint of sci-fi drama, a touch of couture elegance and a strong dose of pure beauty. Actress Lydia Hearst plays a well-dressed alien trapped between worlds in Weir’s moving, atmospheric tale, experience it for yourself in MDX. via models.com
