Asmus Tietchens / Kouhei Matsunaga - Split LP
Asmus Tietchens / Kouhei Matsunaga - Split LP (Important Records) Comentários: Important pair two singular-minded sonic explorers on this excellent split. Asmus Tietchens requires scant introduction - he's operated at the forefront of "absolute music" and contemporary electronics for over three decades, collaborating with Merzbow, Thomas Köner and Richard Chartier among many others. His two compositions have been sculpted from stochastic sequences of pure sine waves as well as guitar samples given him by Dirk Serries (Fear Falls Burning). There's one immersive piece of suspended gray drones and rich harmonic drifts with an submerged and sepulchral acoustic quality entitled ''Die Kopflosen Frauen von Unger', and another more celestial piece of spooling sine waves with more alien acoustic space called 'Gitter'. On the other side, Kouhei Matsunaga of NHK continues a sterling run of releases with two pieces of icy electro-acoustic abstraction. Firstly ''Margin Sequence #1' reminds of his ultra-precise, highly reserved compositions with Sean Booth and Mika Vainio on 'Telepathics Meh In-Sect', all pinging, isolated frequencies and infinite space, while 'Chasing The Night' is a longer section of sky-scanning drones and pulsing rhythm located somewhere between Alva Noto, KTL and John Carpenter.
