SPARRO, Sam - Black & Gold

SPARRO, Sam - Black & Gold (Island) Comentários: Smooth, sexy, poppy and just damn good fun sums up Sam Sparro’s new EP, Black & Gold. Blending rock and funk with disco savvy, Sparro knows how to keep a party going with these six songs. It’s just a shame he doesn’t have more music coming out for a full release, as this E.P. ends far too quickly. Eighties style Prince guitars blend with drum beats and Sam’s synthesized voice in “S.A.M.S.P.A.R.R.O.” It’s a soft start that leads us into the party where he ratchets things up with “Black & Gold”. It’s difficult to describe this song; if you take some Michael Jackson with Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and a little Al Green, you get some idea of what’s going on here. It’s smooth, sexy, and impossible not to dance to. If you’re looking for deep lyrics, Sparro isn’t the place to look. “Cottonmouth” brings out the soul for an ode to being parched. There is an underlying environmental theme, but it’s very subtle. If you miss the one line, you’d never know. “Cling Wrap” continues the party and the booty shaking good times. Who can’t relate to an overly clingy person? From the silly to the serious, “Miss Rexi” takes a moment to tackle anorexia. Of course, it’s all done to a serious dance track. Sparro’s suave vocals handle the topic about as well as an intervention hosted by the girls from Sunset Tan. I’m not sure when trying to convince someone with body image issues to gain weight by telling them you “want to fatten them up”, and that some people “really love a bit of fat” is the best way to go. Shallowness aside, Black & Gold is a party pleaser. Sam Sparro knows music and has created six wicked tunes that will be a hit at any gathering. This is one sleek, sexy, futuristic bit of electro-funk pop that delivers. in popsyndicate [Para Ouvir/Samples]
